Dosha Balancing Smoothie

The following smoothie makes a healthy breakfast or mid-afternoon snack. The dates and bananas provide natural sugars for an energy boost, making it great for post-exercise too. A scoop of vegan protein powder such as pea or hemp could also be added for muscle building if required.

 

The smoothie can help to balance the three doshas, which are the different energies present in the body according to Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, bananas should never be combined with cow’s milk, so plant-based almond milk is chosen instead. The addition of sweet spices helps to pacify vata dosha which controls stress and is often high in today’s fast-paced life. Avoid adding ice to the smoothie, which can aggravate vata and reduce digestive fire.

 

Ingredients

1 ripe banana

1-2 medjool dates

200ml almond milk

Pinch of cinnamon

Pinch of cardamom

Pinch of Himalayan salt (optional)

 

1.     Simply add all the ingredients to a blender, reserving half the almond milk and blend until smooth.

2.     Add the remaining almond milk and pulse to mix.

3.     Pour into your favourite glass and enjoy
